Robin Hayes Leadership PAC Receipts

The following is raw data compiled and organized from the FEC and Open Secrets on Leadership PAC contributions to Robin Hayes for the past three election cycles. I have tried to attribute all claims. Much of the information is from Wikipedia or corporate media sources. Please feel free to use this data for research purposes.

13th Colony Leadership Cmte - Jack Kingston, (R-Ga)
2004 - $1,000
Friends of Jack Kingston
2004 - $1,000

He falls to the right of Tom DeLay. He is very conservative to say the least. I can't find any scandal, but he gave a hilarious interview for the Colbert Report. I found this link on Wikipedia. If you haven't seen it, watch it. You'll be glad you did. In October 2005, Kingston gave a fairly bizarre interview with Stephen Colbert on The Colbert Report, in which he discussed his experience "as an African-American".

21st Century PAC - Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Cal)
2002 -$5,000
2004 - $1000
2005 - $5000

If you find yourself asking, "who the heck is this?", you're probably not alone. Buck McKeon has flown under the radar in Congress. In a Google search you find few references that aren't bios. The most damning info is thanks to the DCCC. "Howard Buck McKeon voted to weaken the ethics rules in a move that many say served only to protect Tom DeLay. Howard Buck McKeon voted to allow Tom DeLay to continue serving as Leader even if he is indicted. When Democrats offered a solution to clean up the House by strengthening ethics rules, Howard Buck McKeon voted twice to make sure it never even came to an up or down vote. Tom DeLay has been admonished three times for his unethical behavior, yet Howard Buck McKeon gave DeLay's legal fund $10,000 to help defend him." So his biggest problem is his support of the ethically bankrupt Tom DeLay.

America's Foundation - Rick Santorum (R-PA)
2002 - $500

Homophobe. Biggest controversy surrounding the Senator is his AP interview where he says the Constitution doesn't guarantee the right to privacy. He says the state should regulate homosexual acts just like it does polygamy, incest, child molestation, pornography, zoophilia, etc. He's a real jewel in the right's crown, eh?

America's Majority Trust - Rob Portman (R-Ohio)
2002 - $5,000
2004 - $10,000

Currently he is serving as the United States Trade Representative. According to David Sirota - more than nearly any other Member of Congress, Portman is really a corporation. He is supposed to represent the people of Ohio, but he really has been a corporate lobbyist in Congressman’s clothing. He has supported every major piece of free trade legislation that’s come before him, while pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the industries that push these deals. And he has done this as Ohio has hemorrhaged jobs. Worse, he has made statements that insult the public’s intelligence. For instance, he actually claimed "I don't think GM went to Mexico because of NAFTA" He said this even though studies showed that immediately after NAFTA passed, "GM jobs in the United States were cut by 38,000 workers."

American Prosperity PAC - Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-California)
2002 - $5,000

Felon. Cunningham pled guilty to bribery, fraud, conspiracy and tax evasion charges in 2005. Talking Points Memo has the entire plea memorandum if you want more specifics.

American Spirit - Jesse Helms (R-NC)
2002 - $500

American Success PAC - David Dreier (R-Cal)
2002 - $1,000
2004 - $2500
Dreier for Congress Cmte
2002 - $1000
2006 - $2000

Once again the most damning information about Dreier comes via the DCCC. Dreier has been in the House for 13 terms. He has supported Tom DeLay and voted with him 96% of the time. Dreier voted to change House ethic rules to benefit Tom DeLay and when the press got too bad he flip flopped and voted to change them back. He voted twice to prevent an up or down vote on a plan proposed by Democrats to clean up House ethics rules. He has given $5000 to DeLay's legal fund.

Americans for a Republican Majority - Tom DeLay (R-Texas)
2002 - $10,000
2004 - $10,000
2006 - $10,000

Most of us are familiar enough with Tom DeLay's legal problems. I won't try to summarize here. Wikipedia is a great source of information. I have found it to be relatively accurate and the external links included at the end of the article are also very helpful.

Americans for Common Sense Government - Christopher Shays (R - Conn)
2002 - $1,000
Christopher Shays for Congress Cmte
2002 - $500
2004 - $500

Most consider him a RINO. He did call for DeLay to resign in a break from the party.

Back America's Conservatives PAC - Richard H. Baker, (R-La)
2006 - $2,000

From Wikipedia: According to The Wall Street Journal, Baker caused some controversy in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when he was overheard telling lobbyists: "We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did." Baker later tried to explain he has long wanted to improve low-income housing. Due to an influx of Democrats to the 6th district following Hurricane Katrina, Baker's seat will become competitive.

Made this contribution on 6/17 right before the vote for CAFTA.

Badger Fund - Tom Petri, (R-Wis)
2006 - $1,000

Also listed under Wisconsin Leadership PAC

BARTLETT PAC - Roscoe G. Bartlett, (R - Md)
2006 - $1,000

Not linked to any scandal. Contribution made 6/17 right before the CAFTA vote.

Bayou Leader PAC - W.J. "Billy" Tauzin, (R-LA)
2002 - $6,766
2004 - $3000

Tauzin was a Democrat until the republicans took control of the house. He then changed parties. From Wikipedia: "On January 3, 2005, the same day he left Congress, Tauzin began work as the head of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA, a powerful trade group for pharmaceutical companies. It was reported that they had offered more than a million dollars per year for his services, outbidding the MPAA (L.A. Times, 9 Feb. 2004). This created a dramatic perception of impropriety, for only two months earlier Tauzin had played a key role in shepherding the Medicare Prescription Drug Bill through Congress; the Bill was beneficial to PhRMA's members.

Buckeye Liberty PAC - Patrick J. Tiberi, (R-Ohio)
2006 - $1,000
Tiberi for Congress
2004 - $1,000

Not connected to a scandal that I can find.

CANDICE PAC - Candice Miller, (R-Mich)
2004 - $1,000
2006 - $1,000

During the 108th Congress, Miller was admonished by the House Ethics Committee for improperly attempting to influence the vote of fellow Michigan Congressman Nick Smith on the floor of the U.S. House.

CARE PAC - Ralph Regula, (R-Ohio)
2004 - $10,000
2006 - $1,000

Not bad for a Republican. He is considered a social liberal and supports stem cell research.

Carolina Majority PAC - Joe Wilson - (R-SC)
2002 - $1,000
2004 - $2,000
2006 - $1,000

Joe Wilson doesn't have any direct ties to scandals that I can find, but he was a close supporter of DeLay's. He received money from ARMPAC and has given $5000 for DeLay's legal defense fund.

Cmte for a United Republican Team - Curt Weldon, (R-PA)
2002 - $2,500
2006 - $1,000

Liar. From Wikipedia: "Weldon spoke at the coronation of Sun Myung Moon "as humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent", on March 23, 2004. His office originally vehemently denied his attendance, then when he was revealed to be a co-chair organizer of the event claimed that he had intended to attend but could not because of a scheduling conflict; then when a photo surfaced of him speaking at the event while standing next to a lifesize photo of him pinning a Unification Church medal on Moammar Al Qadhafi, stated that he had left immediately after the speech and had no knowledge of what else went on."

Cmte for the Preservation of Capitalism - Jim McCrery, (R-LA)
2002 - $10,000
2004 - $5,000
2006 - $10,000

Hmmmm - Rumor has it he's a liberal Republican (yeah, right). What's he doing giving so much money to Hayes? He does have some contributions from Abramoff's clients the Coushatta tribe, but they are also consituents of McCrery, so not a strong scandal tie-in.

Congressional Majority Cmte - Bill Thomas, (R-Cal)
2002 - $6,000
2004 - $10,000
Bill Thomas Congressional Cmte
2004 - $1,000

Adulterer. Only Republican literally caught in bed with big Pharma.....or rather one of it's lobbyists. (via Rolling Stone) From other sources: This 11-term Republican is chair of the Ways and Means subcommittee on Health, and she is a powerful lobbyist for health-care companies. In June(2000), the Bakersfield Californian reported that Thomas, who is married, was having an affair with healthcare lobbyist Deborah Steelman. In an "open letter to friends and neighbors" (voters), Thomas did not deny the relationship, but said during his legislative career, "I have never let my public decisions be influenced by any factor other than what I thought was best and right on your behalf ... Any personal failures of commitment or responsibility to my wife, family, or friends are just that, personal. I have never traded a public responsibility for a personal one and I never will."

Conservative Action Team - House Conservatives Fund
$2,500

Conservative Victory Fund - Steve Symms, (R-Idaho)
2002 - $2,901
2004 - $824
2006 - $883

Adulterer and Liar. Retired from the Senate in 1993 after his his wife detailed his philandering ways in their divorce. He spread a false rumor that Kitty Dukakis burned a flag to protest the Viet Nam War and that Mike Dukakis was getting help for a mental illness. This guy's a real winner...he was one of only 6 people (all Republicans) to vote against the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Continuing a Majority Party Action Cmte - Dave Camo, (R-Mich)
2004 - $500

According to the internet this guy doesn't exist. I will research further if I need to.

Democracy Believers PAC - Lincoln Diaz-Balart, (R-Fla)
2002 - $1,000
2004 - $1,000
2006 - $2,000
Lincoln Diaz-Balart for Congress Fund
2002 - $1,000

I haven't found anything controversial about him yet.

DOC PAC - Phil Gingrey, (R-Ga)
2004 - $1,000

Rated as the most conservative member of the House. Other than that I can't link him to any scandal at the time.

Doing Our Nation's Service PAC - Donald L. Sherwood, (R-Pa)
2004 - $1,000
2006 - $1,000

Adulterer and abuser. Via Wikipedia: On September 15, 2004, a woman locked herself inside the bathroom of Sherwood's Washington, D.C. apartment, and called 911 to report she was assaulted. When police arrived, the woman, Cynthia Ore, accused Sherwood of choking her, though he maintained he was only giving her a backrub. No charges were filed because both Sherwood and Ore refused to provide any details.

The details of that incident went unnoticed until 2005, when Veronica Hannevig, who ran against Sherwood on the Constitution Party ticket in 2004, leaked a copy of the police report to several newspapers and television stations. Sherwood eventually admitted he had a five-year affair with Ore, but denied abusing her.

Ore later filed a $5.5 million lawsuit against Sherwood, accusing him of abusing her during their relationship. An out-of-court settlement between the two was reached on November 8, 2005, the terms of which were not released.

Every Republican is Crucial PAC - Eric Cantor, (R-Va)
2004 - $8,000
2006 - $9,927
Cantor for Congress
2002 - $1,000
2004 - $2,000

He has ties to Abramoff and Tom DeLay. He is a DeLay apologist. Abramoff held a fundraiser for him at one of his restaurants (a deli) and a sandwich was named for Cantor. Cantor had written a letter on his own in support of one of Abramoff's clients and had signed one with the other members of Republican leadership team in the House. Source is here.

Federal Victory Fund - Thomas M. Davis, III (R - Va)
2006 - $1,000
Tom Davis for Congress
2002 - $2,000
2004 - $1,000

Liar. Signed Contract with America pledging to serve only 12 years. That ends this year. If he runs for election again that makes him a liar.....and we have it in writing.

First Freedoms Fund - Earnest J. Istook, (R - Okla)
2006 - $1,000

Received campaign contributions directly from Abramoff. Lost committee chairmanship over a spat with committee members. Other than that I find nothing on the guy. Contribution made on 6/16 right before the CAFTA vote.

Florida Republican Leadership PAC - Mark Foley (R-Fla)
2002 - $1,500
Friends of Mark Foley for Congress
2002 - $1,000

I can't see that he is involved in any scandals at the moment or in the past. He has been accused of being gay. He neither denies nor confirms it saying his sexual orientation is unimportant. It is, but obviously, not to the GOP.

Freedom Project - John A. Boehner, (R-Ohio)
2002 - $10,234
2004 - $9,765
2006 - $5,000

Boehner has taken more than $157,000 in free trips, placing him seventh among 638 current and former members of Congress, including senators, in the value of privately funded travel accepted between 2000 and 2005, according to American Radioworks. These included a $4,869 trip to Scotland in 2000 and a $9,050 trip to Rome in 2001, both of which were sponsored by the Ripon Educational Fund, a nonprofit group largely run by business lobbyists. Family members traveled with him for free on both trips.

Boehner preceded indicted former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay as the head of the "K Street Operation," the Republicans' efforts to coordinate policy and fundraising with well-heeled lobbyists, which since has been dubbed the "K Street Project." But the Ohioan lost the job to DeLay in 1998 after he was voted out as head of the Republican Conference.

In 1997, Burton was accused of demanding a $5,000 contribution from a Pakistani lobbyist. When the lobbyist was unable to raise the funds, the congressman complained to the ambassador for the Bhutto government and later threatened to make sure "none of his friends or colleagues" would meet with the lobbyist or his associates.
